Backpacking
Europe

Accomodations
There are several other options as well.  One of which is sleeping on night trains.  This option
is not as cheap as you might expect.  While you probably do have your Eurorail pass, keep in
mind that the night trains usually charge a premium that can be close to the amount of a hostel
bed.  Of course you save time this way, sleeping through your train ride.  This option is not
nearly s comfortable s others though.

Its not uncommon to find locals willing to rent out a room in their home for a night or two.  Don’
t be surprised if a local offers you this at a train station.  It’s a win-win situation, you’ll get a
place to sleep at what is usually a good rate and they get to make a little spare money from an
unused bedroom.

You may also find yourself getting creative in your travels.  Every once in a while poor
planning means you won’t have a place to sleep.  Once I arrived in Barcelona late at night with
a group of three other travelers.  There was some sort of festival going on that we didn’t know
about before hand and we could find no place to stay.  No problem, we enjoyed a rather cold
night on the beach.  So you might end up homeless for a night.  Don’t worry, it’ll work out.  I
once slept in a phone booth is Scotland, no big deal.
