Some people worry if they are too old (or young) to go
backpacking through Europe. The short and simple answer is
absolutely not. While the majority of backpackers will fit into an
early twenties, college age, demographic people of all ages are
backpacking. Older backpackers might feel like they don’t fit into
the groups as well as they like, but obviously this will depend on
the back packer themselves. People backpacking tend to be
open minded and will not be inclined to exclude people based on
age, or any other reason for that matter. Backpackers by nature
are inclined to be interested in other viewpoints and culture and
most will welcome people who do not fit precisely into the mold of
everyone else they are meeting in the hostel.
Interests often change with age, you won’t see too many
older backpackers in Europe who are there to just party it up and
get drunk every night, they are wise enough (and of age) to stay
home for that. But seeing national treasures and historical
landmarks are things that transcend age. Older backpackers in
Europe can have every bit as much fun as their younger counter
parts.
Can someone be too young? Of course, not many toddlers
backpack across Europe. The earliest age is really dependent on
the person. As long as the backpacker is reasonably responsible
and independent they should be fine, and have a good time.
