One thing that many people consider is travel insurance. I have never bought travel insurance
in my travels, but it isn’t necessarily a bad idea.
Travel insurance comes in many forms and can cover many different things, so if you have
specific concerns it may be important to shop around. Most travel insurance policies will
cover medical expenses and/or cancellation expenses. Policies tend to be a couple of
hundred dollars, but there are several different options and coverages you can opt for.
Keep in mind that in foreign countries their health care systems can be very different than in
the US. Many have socialized medical programs which may make some medical travel
insurance policies a mute point. I have met people that have been injured in their travels and
received free medical care.
Cancellation insurance probably won’t help you accept for airfare there and getting home. As
long as you good about getting to the airport on time you should be fine.
Travel insurance may not be a bad idea, it may give you some piece of mind. Do some
research and shop prices if interested and see if it can work into your budget. Of course you
can just risk going without and be perfectly fine too.
