Backpacking
Europe

Packing
I brought lots of stuff that never even came out of my bag on my first trip.  It is better to forget
something than to bring crap you won’t use.  My backpack weighed over fifty pounds and was
very much a burden.  Don’t do that.  I actually brought a textbook, thinking I could study up in
my down time.  Be disciplined when packing, you really won’t need as much clothes as you
are inclined to think.  Nobody is going to expect you to pretty yourself up as much as you
would at home.

Some people will want to bring maps.  If you don’t have a very specific itinerary on mind, wait
on these, but make it a high priority once you come into a city.  They are easy to come by once
you are there, any street book stand, tourist office, or plane/train station will have them.
What NOT to Bring
